Pattaya is become more dangerous, there is rising crime, especially violent crime and crime against foreigners. There are no real statistics on murder in Pattaya since the police are often accused of covering up murder rates in Pattaya. When a tourist dies in suspicious circumstances the police may put it down to suicide or accidental death. There are stories of many foreign tourists committing suicide by jumping off balconies. Another favorite murder method is the motorbike attack. A tourist is riding their motorbike and someone comes along and kicks them off it.
Why are tourists being murdered in Pattaya?
On the whole tourists to Pattaya are well behaved and respectful of the local culture however Pattaya does have a reputation as the place in Thailand that attracts the worst of the foreigners and the Thais alike. Many tourists get drunk and become rude and abusive towards each other and the Thai people. Since in Thai culture one should always try to save face and avoid confrontation, many foreigners do not understand this and have little understanding of a culture. Thai people are very patient, but this kind of behaviour is unacceptable in Thailand and when pushed by a vile rude and abusive foreigner some locals may take the law into their own hands. Of course this is wrong, there are good and bad people everywhere – however foreigners forget that whilst Thai people always appear very friendly and helpful they are not all nice and it is not so easy to spot dangerous and criminal Thai people.
